WORDS - Nelly K

The Power of Creativity

Welcome to this month’s words by Nelly K! Let’s explore how art can improve our well-being. Art is more than just fun—it helps us express ourselves, feel inspired, and find peace. This edition focuses on how creating and enjoying art can make us healthier and happier, and we’ll share easy ways to add creativity to your life. How Art Helps Our Emotions
Making or enjoying art helps us deal with feelings in a healthy way. Whether it’s drawing, dancing, singing, or writing, creativity lets us express what’s inside.

Benefits of Art for Our Mind

  • Reduces Stress: Making art can lower stress levels and help us relax.

  • Improves Focus: Working on creative tasks helps us stay present and calm.

  • Boosts Mood: Art releases feel-good chemicals in the brain, making us happier.

What People Say About Art
Jane, a graphic designer, says, "Sketching helps me relax and feel connected to myself when life gets stressful." Michael, who started pottery after retiring, says it has brought him "joy and calm" in his life.

What Science Says About Art
Studies show that creating art lights up the brain and releases dopamine, which makes us feel rewarded and happy.

Art Therapy
Art therapy helps people facing challenges like trauma, anxiety, or illness. With the help of trained therapists, creating art becomes a way to heal and understand ourselves.

Easy Ways to Add Art to Your Day
You don’t need to be an artist to enjoy art. Try these simple ideas:

  • Start a Sketchbook: Doodle or draw when you have free time.

  • Try Colouring: Adult colouring books are a fun way to relax.

  • Join a Class: Look for art or craft workshops online or in your area.

  • Enjoy Music: Dance to your favourite tunes or try making your own music.

Art Brings Us Together
Art can connect communities in amazing ways:

  • Murals: Painting murals together makes neighbourhoods more beautiful.

  • Local Exhibits: Visit art shows that showcase local talent.

  • Shared Spaces: Community studios offer a place for anyone to create and share.

Finding Joy in Everyday Art

You don’t have to create art to enjoy its magic. Visit a museum, watch a live show, or take in the beauty of nature. Even looking at art can spark joy and calm your mind.

Helpful Resources

Here are some tools to inspire you:

  • Apps: Try apps like Calm or Happify for creative stress relief.

  • Books: Read "The Artist’s Way" by Julia Cameron for creative inspiration.

  • Websites: Explore CreativeLive or Skillshare for art and craft lessons.

Final Thoughts
Art is everywhere—in the colours of a painting, the rhythm of a song, or the beauty of the world around us. It doesn’t matter if you’re creating or appreciating; art can bring calm and happiness to your life. Let’s make creativity a daily habit!

See you next month for more ways to discover the magic of art. Until then, draw, paint, sing, or simply enjoy the beauty around you.
