Firepit Art Gallery | Monthly Newsletter | The Flame 🔥
Ummm… what happened? Somehow I seem to have missed February’s newsletter. I mean Feb was a lot of fun, Firepit did crazy good stuff. Now you’ll never know - damn. Oh, changed the CIC so we have two new Directors, Nelly and Amy 🙂 This is a big deal. More changes to come over the year.
At the end of this month we will have been here on the Peninsula for three years. That genuinely blows my mind. What started as an idea scribbled on the back of a fag packet, so to speak, has grown into something magnificently alive.
Firepit has become a space where ideas are brought forward and given the support they need to become reality. A place where visitors talk, the guardians of the building listen, and the space continues to grow. Where ideas form the framework — shaping both the present and the future.
It’s a place where friendships and collaborations are formed. Somewhere you can sit and collect your thoughts. A place to laugh… and sometimes cry. A place that holds space, allowing everyone who walks through the door to be themselves without fear.
It has been my absolute privilege to help steer the Firepit ship over the past three years. But this is not a space built by one person — it has been shaped by hundreds of voices.
Looking ahead to the next three years, I’m incredibly excited about what we can build together. How we can continue supporting creativity, strengthening our community, and bringing positive change to parts of our local area that are often overlooked.
We’re also putting more energy into developing the commercial side of what we do. Not for profit, but for sustainability — so we can raise the funds needed to support the incredible ideas and projects that keep emerging from this space.
As always, the door is open. Come by, bring a friend, share an idea, or simply sit for a while. Firepit is only ever what we build together.
Three years in, and it still feels like we’re only just getting started..
Always with love - MJ

Free tickets for the opening night are available now.
The Abstract Condition brings together a carefully curated collection of original works exploring the many possibilities of abstraction. Featuring artists connected to Firepit’s growing creative community — from emerging voices to more established practitioners — the exhibition presents a wide range of approaches to colour, form, texture and process.
Some works are bold and immediate, others quieter and more contemplative. Together they create a space where viewers can spend time with the work, allowing different meanings, emotions and interpretations to emerge.
At Firepit, exhibitions are about more than simply showing work on a wall. They are about creating a shared space where artists, ideas and audiences come together. The Abstract Condition reflects that spirit — a gathering of different practices and perspectives, united by the freedom and openness that abstraction allows.
For collectors, art lovers and first-time buyers alike, the exhibition also offers the opportunity to acquire original artworks directly from the artists, supporting independent creative practice and becoming part of Firepit’s growing community.
“Art should comfort the disturbed and disturb the comfortable.”
