Masquerade

Masquerade is a project that explores my Venetian roots and the carnival masks.

Venetian masks have always been a symbol of playful fun but at the same time mysterious covering.

In this instance though, the identity of the X-rayed subject is already unknown to the viewer, and the masks are just an added layer to the bone tissues while the black and white deprives the colourful and playful attributes of the masks to explore the core and essence of the shapes and patterns. The result is a fusion between the human tissue and the masks fabric resulting into a mysterious subject where we struggle to define the boundaries of each of the two components.

This small series of artworks is one of my very few black and white works.

Printed on Ilford B/W paper mounted on alu-dibond and under matt acrylic glass with a slimline golden frame. Limited edition of 10. Sizes from 50x60 to 80x60cm

Dog Commission Piece.

This is Carla, a lovely dog who lives with her daddies in New York City.

This is something completely new for me. I was asked to do an anatomical portrait of Carla after the client saw my anatomical hearts with neon frame which have been also exhibited here at Firepit.

The result is this intricate drawing which has been based on a picture of Carla and reveals all the anatomical structure of the dog, completely carried out by me digitally by drawing on computer all the elements that compose the dog anatomy.

I really enjoyed working on this project and I thought this could be a new adventure in my art practice, opening up to doing portrait of dogs commissioned by their mums and dads

So if this is something that could be of interest why not contact me for a chat and I can show you samples of this completed commission
