April ‘24

Welcome to April. Where the nights get brighter and the weather gets warmer - we hope!

Here is some exciting news, Firepit is now officially, ‘Firepit Art Gallery and Studios CIC’. CIC meaning community Interest Company. We were always running as a non-profit before, now it is official. It also means our emphasis is creating ourselves as a community hub. We feel this works incredibly well with having a unique contemporary gallery. Our current exhibition has Firepit artists, guest artists and we have recently created a wall for community artists to display their art. It really works well. Many more community events as well as public events coming. If you live locally, please come by and chat about how we can integrate more into the community.

Founder Marcus Jake arrived from Canada to start this project a year ago. We will be having a full on, 1 year celebration when we get to the anniversary of the first exhibition we put on as a collective. It is a few months away & we will be letting you know when we have a little more planned out.

Throughout April our current exhibition, ‘Wake Up and Smell the Roses’, continues. Free entry, tickets are not needed.

Wednesday 3rd: 6:30pm Our Firepit Meditation Class, Run by Cara. Reserve your spot.

Saturday 13th: 11am. Yarn Play Workshop with Nicola Reid. This is a free workshop. Reserve your spot and be quick, this is going to be an awesome workshop :)

Saturday 13th: From 6pm we have a music event, organised by the lovely Conner, 1 poet, 4 musicians and a live DJ : Details & Tickets

Tuesday 16th: Sound Bath. The last one was so popular, we have squeezed another in. Get your tickets quickly. Reserve your Spot

Wednesday 24th: Firepit Tales. We are looking forward to the next instalment of Firepit Tales. Free performers tickets - open mic. Tickets

Saturday 27th: Mandala Stone Painting Workshop. From local Resident Jenny. Jenny comes in to Firepit from time to time to use the space to work in, it is fascinating to watch the intricate detailing, will be another very awesome workshop. Book your Tickets

Other News

There are three Firepit artists; Ernesto Romano, Marcus Jake & Shumaiya Khan, that have donated work to the Terrance Higgins Trust Charity auction taking place on April 15th. The online auction is here.

We are planning a Sip & Paint workshop with a DJ, it’ll be in May. We have a life drawing class, our first one is actually in April, but just for local residents, the next one will be open to everyone. We are planning a creative writing course. We are part of the Urban Village Fete on May19th, offering Face painting and badge making. We are installing an outside sculpture, maybe May, possibly June, it’s been in the planning for about 6 months, check out Firepit Friend, Simon Probyn. Thinking we may do a Community Mural window? We want to yarn bomb some stuff. We are looking forward to sitting outside in the sun. Trying to get our licence sorted so we can serve drinks at events. We are going to do Kirtan classes in May, Tai Chi classes in May. More mediation classes in May. Jewellery making workshops coming up. Come and chat to us, what do you want to do? Life is short…
